What is it?
The KWS Borlaug Stipendium is a 6-month study visit opportunity for wheat scientists to work at a KWS site in Germany or the UK on research and development related to CIMMYT priorities. The Stipendium covers salary, research and living expenses for the 6 months visit. Who is eligible?
Young and older scientists are eligible to apply. You must have completed your PhD, and you must be willing and able to work on a research related to CIMMYT priorities (e.g., breeding for yield and yield stability, biotic and abiotic stresses of importance in the developing world, etc.).
How do I apply?
Send a brief (max 2 pages) research proposal and statement of purpose, along with your CV and the names and contact information for 2 references, to Jenny Nelson, CIMMYT Global Wheat Program Manager at j.nelson@cgiar.org by 31 July 2014. In addition to the aforementioned information, please include a statement addressing the following three questions:

- Explain how your research proposal aligns with CIMMYT’s ongoing work and with KWS’ research priorities.
- Your research should align with both CIMMYT’s and KWS’s areas of work, and your research proposal must also align with the available time frame. Please give an explanation of how your research will fit into the March – August season.
The applications will be reviewed by a committee of CIMMYT and KWS scientists, and an offer will be extended by 31 August 2014, to allow sufficient time for arranging necessary work permits and other logistics. There is one opportunity available in 2015 and one in 2016. Please indicate on the application if you are applying for the stipend for 2015 or 2016.
